Source Project
Trade Specialist | Turkey
For this project my team spent a whole semester in our Soft Good and Supply Chain class researching information to see if the brand Girlfriend Collective should source from the country of Turkey. Each sourcing team had a role of either Trade Specialist, HR Manager, Risk Analyst, Cultural Analyst, and Product Development Specialist. At the end of the semester we presented our findings and sourcing recommendation to K-State faculty who roleplayed as CEOs and Board of Directors of the brand Girlfriend Collective.

My Role: Trade Specialist
As the trade specialist, my primary responsibility was to conduct thorough research on the country's involvement in global trade. This entailed examining various aspects such as the country's participation in international organizations like the World Trade Organization, types of product exported and imported, trends in exports and imports, major trading partners, trade history, and relationships with the United States. Additionally, I had to investigate any trade restrictions or special agreements with the United States that may impact sourcing decisions, as well as tariff rates specific to my client's product category. I also analyzed freight rates and shipping times, comparing them to other geographic regions that Girlfriend Collective may consider for sourcing. This included identifying the availability and location of major ports and airports within the country as well.
